Women’s Liberation! Women’s Liberation?

The Women’s Liberation movement of the 18th century till now has opened up countless doors for us. Voting. Working. Social status. You’ve been told from an early age that you can do whatever you want to. And you can!

If you live in America.

Imagine if you didn’t.

Imagine if you couldn’t read.

Imagine if you couldn’t work.

Imagine if you couldn’t get medical care.

What would you do?

Be thankful.

Of the estimated one billion illiterate people worldwide, over two thirds are women. Of the estimated 130 million children worldwide who aren’t in school, about two thirds are girls. By age 18, on average, girls worldwide have received 4.4 years less schooling that boys.

American children under the age of 13, on average, have more spending money than the 300 million poorest people in the world.

Next time you feel like complaining about school, think about these stats. Next time you whine about your possessions, think about all of this.

You are an amazing kick butt girl. You have been blessed beyond what you deserve. There is so much we take for granted. School. Doctors. The fact that we get to learn. The fact that we can have jobs.

Do us all a favor and realize that. Be thankful. Be humble.

And pray. Pray for your sisters around the world who have so much less than you. Pray that they would get by. That they would have food, education, medical care, and safety.

And be thankful. Have I said that already? I’ll say it again.

Be thankful.

Celebrate Whatever

One more with the balloons :)

My birthday is nine days away! If you are my friend on Facebook or have known me for at least five minutes, you know that I LOVE my birthday. I love being celebrated. I love parties. And I LOVE PRESENTS!

The sad thing about birthdays is that they only last for one day (or, in my case, a week ;) But then I got to thinking – why not create more celebration days? Fun, funny traditions that turn into inside jokes. Because, let’s face it, who doesn’t like a good party? Here’s a few ideas:

Color Day: You and your friends pick a color. Any color. You all go to school dressed totally in that color, bring lunch to share that’s made of food that color, and give each other little Dollar Store gifts that are that color, wrapped in paper of that color. Something like White Wednesday or Fuscia Friday.

Goodwill Gala: You all go out together and find the absolute most fabulous outfit you can find from the Goodwill, Value Village, or a garage sale. It can be totally diva-licious or wacky and random. You wear it proudly to school and do a little white elephant exchange with something from your own house.

Secret Sister: As someone who loves presents, this is one of my all time favorites! Get a group of girls together and draw names. Take a week or a month or however long you want where you buy little gifts for your secret sister. It’s so fun being creative both in what you buy (set like a $5 limit) and how you sneak it to them. You can even have themes for the gifts (something big, something small, something girly, something handmade, naughty but nice, etc.)

Valentines Day: Yes, I know, it’s already a celebration day. But I’ll never forget a group of kick butt girls I knew a while back who always had a girl’s day that day. They’d each buy presents – balloons, stuffed animals, flowers – and give it to each other at school. Then, after school, they’d all go out to dinner together. Just goes to show you don’t have to be in a relationship to enjoy that day!

Any fun traditions you have with your friends? Do you think you’ll try any of these?

How To Be Tough

If you’re reading this blog, chances are you are a kick-butt kind of girl.  If not, continue reading we’ll make you one.  If you’re a dude, you should pay attention so you know what you’re getting into when you come across one of us.  But let’s get a few things clear first:

#1 A tough girl is by no means butch.  We are cute, beautiful, princess-like, divalicious and overall amazing.

#2  A tough girl isn’t always athletic.  We have a variety of skills such as serious musical talent, mad knowledge skills, and the ability to make people look twice every time we walk into a room.

#3  A tough girl isn’t mean. In fact, we’re incredibly nice and kind. That way, people are off their guard when we show off our tough girl skills (i.e. ninja battle, zombie fighting, shark attack survival, lock picking, etc.)

#4  A tough girl doesn’t always wear camo and combat boots.  Sometimes we do, but most of the time we prefer to blend in with the masses. If you wonder why, see the reasoning on #3.

#5 A tough girl is crazy in love with Jesus. After all, He made us this way.

Think you’re a tough, kick-butt girl?  Tell me why!
