Don’t Waste Your Summer

Can you feel it in the air? That collective sigh of relief as that last bell rings. Those blessed two and half months we look forward to all year long…

Summer Vacation.

Doesn’t the phrase just put a smile on your face?

Summer means time is yours. You’re living by your rules on your schedule. No classes or homework. No early mornings or late nights cramming. Summertime. It’s a beautiful thing.

So why does it typically turn into a whine fest of, “I’m so bored!” “I’ve got nothing to do!”

If that’s you, tough girl, consider this your wake up call. These two and a half glorious months can be filled with a lot of lame nothingness where you spend all day in your pajamas eating cereal and watching Spongebob. Or you can make it count for something.

Read the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30 and ask yourself this: who am I? Am I the servant who made the most of what she was given? Or am I the servant who sat and did nothing?

Real tough girls will strive for that first one. Here are some ideas for how not to waste your summer:

-You can’t change the world if you wake up after noon. DON’T BE LAZY!!!!

-Go on a mission trip

-Volunteer somewhere once a week

-Garden

-Commit to exercising with a friend 3-5 times a week

-Go on daily walks

-Get a part time job and give half the money away to a good cause

-Read

-Host craft parties

-Get together with an older woman once a week and cook or bake

-Take lunch to your parents when they’re at work

-Offer to babysit for free in the middle of the day

-Go spend time in a lake or river

-Write letters to missionaries

-Do the Tough Girl Summer Challenge

-Gut your house and give away a bunch of your stuff

-Spend an hour with Jesus daily

-Visit elderly people in your church

And that’s just the beginning. This is precious time, tough girl. Don’t wast it.

Question: Are you more prone to laziness or busyness? How can you use this summer to glorify God and grow yourself? Do you have someone to keep you accountable?
